HP Mini 2140 Review Pictures Specs

The Hewlett-Packard HP Mini 2140 is a nice, not bad netbook after all. We like the big keyboard though. Plus the solid metal casing and full ExpressCard/54 slot, which is the first for a netbook. The price of £379 is competitive among mini notebooks. However, there is no mobile broadband option yet! The mouse button placement also in an awkward position. HP Mini 2140 is expected in stores by February 2009.

The keyboard is better than other netbooks have. It is 92% of a size of laptop's ketboard which make it comfortable to use. The processing speed is adequate enough for for a netbook. However Lenovo IdeaPad U110 which using dual core processor is obviously faster. Nevertheless HP Mini delivers better performance than Sony Vaio P-Series netbook which powered by Microsoft Windows Vista. The 2140 runs for 3 hours and 11 minutes in video-playback test. There is an option to choose three-cell battery which is not recommended.


The 2140 ran for 3 hours and 11 minutes on our video-playback battery-drain test, using a six-cell battery. That battery sticks out from the back of the system slightly. The basic three-cell battery lasted only about 35 minutes less, so you'll have to choose between longer battery life and greater portability.

Intel Moblin 2 Alpha Platform For Netbook

New platform released by Intel named Moblin 2 Alpha which is Linux-based to be used for Atom-powered netbooks. Moblin offers unique Internet connection manager and fast boot time. The open source platform is already adopted by several Linux distributors like Mandriva, GoS and Linpus. Intel hopes to attract third-party software developer to develop applications for Moblin 2 Alpha. The open source Moblin is still in stage of developing and the final user interface is still far from complete.

Moblin is specially designed for Netbook consist of Intel-based hardware. It works on Dell Mini 9 and Acer Aspire from testing, and offers very fast boot time. Intel's Moblin 2 Alpha looks more compelling than Ubuntu to both end users and developer. It is a good start by Intel and we hope it will be a great replacement for pricey Windows.

It might be a boost to Microsoft since the significant decrease in the company's profit last year plus the downfall of Zune Media player. Thus Windows Mobile 6.5 maybe the "savior" to Microsoft. As economy worsen more people are looking for cheap alternative for software and applications. That's the reason why Apple Software Store which usually sells iPhone applications for cheap dollars are a hit nowadays. It might be a real boost for Microsoft if they reduce the price of their new software and application. Windows 7 and Microsoft Windows Mobile 6.5 might also come in pirated version when it comes up. Emerging of torrent sites and file sharing sites obviously hurt the profit for software giants. We do still love Microsoft even Windows Vista is a major mistake (or crap?). Microsoft decision to come up with Windows Mobile 6.5 which is hopefully with integrated advanced security features to tackle the worms, viruses, spyware and other threats that infected million of computers and mobile devices are no exception. Security updates should be released by Microsoft as often as possible. We do like free download of Windows Mobile 6.5 if the price is exorbitant and we are lacking in money as the economy condition by now. We really hope that these software giants understand us and take it into consideration. We do not prefer for piracy but the money is what contribute to software piracy, torrent and crack download. We wait and see for the Windows Mobile 6.5.

Intel CULV (ultra low voltage platform) will be in the market second quarter of 2009. The systems will be priced around $699 to $899. According to Intel sources at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, the company will come up with new chip that suit ultra-thin laptops with lower cost expected later this year. The new chip will be competing with Intel Atom that used in netbooks and AMD Athlon Neo processor which also made for ultra-thin laptops. The Intel processor will enables notebook to be made less than one inch or 25mm in size.

Both DDR2 and mobile DDR1 is supported by its memory interface. DR2 is more suitable for netbook as it consume less power with better price.

Newly released MSI Wind NetTop D130 computer is powered by dual core Intel Atom 330. It comes in 4.71 small case and at full load utilize 35W. CPU speed at 1.6GHz and it is based on Intel 945GC Chipset. Storage capacity is 160GB SATA hard drive and RAM is 2GB DDR2. Price is still unknown at this time but it is expected to have an attactive price tag of €350.
